Expectations for learning and behavior are clearly delineated and actively taught. There is a caring, inclusive climate and a collegial, cooperative culture. Decisions are driven by data. Staff pays more attention to appropriate behaviors exhibited by students than they do to misbehaviors. Staff views misbehavior as an instructional opportunity and provides correction calmly and consistently. Administration is actively involved in the process.

This approach included the use of functional assessment, antecedent manipulations, teaching strategies, and changes in reinforcement contingencies with a focus on achieving lifestyle changes as the outcome of intervention. Over the last three decades there have been significant advancements in PBS in its use with diverse populations and with both individuals and within programs and systems.
Today, the term PBS is used to describe the implementation of a broad approach to provide the supports needed to achieve basic lifestyle goals while reducing the challenging behavior that might impede those goals. PBS is our school-wide approach aimed at improving the academic and behavioural outcomes of all students. PBS works to establish a climate in which appropriate behaviour is the norm.
We have created a collaborative team of individuals to spearhead our PBS efforts. In addition one of our goals is to involve all stakeholders in developing this positive school climate including staff, administration, parents, students, and the community.
By implementing PBS, we hope to provide our students with the tools for managing their own behavior in order to for them to grow into successful, responsible adults. Together the home and school share the responsibility for developing good citizens. Parents, teachers, and students must work together to maintain a safe and effective learning environment. Our school-wide PBS plan is based upon our philosophy of recognizing positive contributions of our students.
