And housing is a key factor in this growing inequality. While overseas travellers isolate in hotels, and some people own homes spacious enough to be able to follow official guidelines on separate bedrooms and bathrooms, others face very different circumstances.

Locks and security. Put in your letter if true that you have not abandoned the place and if true that you plan to keep living there. Keep a copy of the letter for your records. You can use our sample letter. Make sure you can prove the landlord got this letter. Bring a witness who is not a household member, or send it certified mail return receipt requested and regular mail.
If you do not get your things back after sending the letter, call the police. If you send a written demand for your things, the landlord must return them.
You can go to court to force the landlord to give you back your things. Only if you abandoned your place and left your things behind or the landlord evicted you after a Writ of Restitution and you did not ask the landlord in writing to store your things.
If you objected to the landlord storing your things, the landlord must place your things on the nearest public property. A landlord who earns more from the sale than you owe must hold the difference for you for one year from the date of sale. You can claim the money during that time. The landlord can not demand you pay rent owed in exchange for getting back your stuff. But a landlord who sells your things can apply any money from the sale to rent or other costs you owe.

If your landlord locks you out illegally, you can take the landlord to court to get back into your apartment, or get damages. If your landlord is blocking the entry to your unit, call the police. Dial if it is not an emergency, and if it is emergency. If the police refuse to help, remind them that the landlord's action violates the RLTO, and that the police must investigate lockouts.
If the officer still refuses to help, ask to speak with the watch commander. After the police have addressed the lockout, obtain a copy of the report. Then, send a notice letter to your landlord. You may sue your landlord for damages. Consult with a lawyer prior to taking any legal action. This law lets you sue your landlord if they lock you out. You can get 2 months' rent, or whatever costs you had due to the lockout, whichever is higher. Your landlord will also have to pay you back for any money you have to spend hiring a lawyer to file the case for you.
